New Suv-Mpv Vehicles On The Block

Octandigital presents new SUVs and MPVs, which are equipped with latest technology and superb features. These dynamic vehicles are all set to further heat up the already stiff competition in the world of SUVs and MPVs.

This time, you have more than enough options!

Mahindra Xylo:

In India by: Jan 2009
Will cost: Rs 6-8 lakhs
M&M will venture into the MPV market this year with the launch of their all-
new Xylo. The company has been pretty hush-hush about the details of the car and the spy shots haven’t revealed much, other than the fact that it looks about the same size as its main competitor, the Toyota Innova. However, we can guess that we’ll likely
see M&M’s mHawk common-rail diesel engine doing business in this car, at least in one of the variants.

Toyota Fortuner:

In India by: mid 2009
Will cost: Rs 18-20 lakhs
The Fortuner will be Toyota’s answer to the Chevrolet Captiva and the Honda
CRV in the SUV bracket.

Powered by a 3.0 litre diesel engine, this will be most meatier and powerful car in
its segment. The Fortuner is expected to offer a 7-seater variant like the Chevrolet
Captiva.

New Nissan X-Trail

In India by: Early 2009
Will cost: RS 20-25 lakh
Nissan’s X-Trail has been around for quite some time.

For 2009 the Japanese SUV get subtle changes on the outside. Under the
hood the car gets a more powerful diesel mill coupled with the electronically
activated four wheel drive system. Going head on with the CR-V,Outlander
and the Captiva, the X-Trail has its work cut out

TATA Indicruz:

In India by: Mid-2009
Will cost: Rs 9-10 lakhs
2009 will mark Tata’s foray into the MPV market with a new car based on the
X-over concept called the Indicruz.

It will be based on the existing Safari platform and should be available with the 2.2litre
DiCOR common-rail diesel engine that has been doing rather well so far. Based
on what we’ve seen Tata do with their new Indica Vista, we can expect the Indicruz
to be fairly up-market, and will probably do well placed amongst its rivals, the new
M&M Xylo and the Toyota Innova.

How To Correctly Install Your Car Seat

How To Correctly Install Your Car Seat

The first step is to become familiar with the locations of the airbags within your vehicle. All new automobiles are installed with driver and passenger air bags for the front seats. With the combination of seats belts, air bags are very effective in preventing major injury or even death from a car accident. However, air bags can be very dangerous to little children, especially those sitting in rear-facing car safety seats, and to children who are not properly positioned within their seat belt. If your automobile with active front passenger air bags, children riding in rear-facing car seats only should ride in the rear seat. Tests of shown that, ven in a relatively low-speed crash, an air bag can deploy, striking the car seat, and causing brain and neck injury or even death for the child.

Automobiles without a rear seat, are not the best choice for traveling with children in car seats. But some cars do have the option to deactivate the front passenger air bag, for the use of car seats in the front seat of the automobile. It’s highly recommend to review your vehicle owner’s manual for complete information.

Additionally, many new automobiles have side air bags for improved safely during a side-impact crash. If you automobile has side air bags, review both your vehicle owners manual and the car seat manual for instructions on proper car seat placement.

The second step is proper latching or attaching the car seat to the vehicle. Many vehicles have a LATCH system that eliminates the need to use seat belts to secure the car safety seat. Vehicles with a LATCH system have anchors located in the back seat. Car safety seats that come with LATCH have attachments that fasten to these anchors. Nearly all passenger vehicles and all car safety seats made on or after September 1, 2002, come with LATCH. However, unless both your vehicle and the car safety seat have this anchor system, you will still need to use seat belts to install the car safety seat.

If you have questions or need help installing your car safety seat, find a certified CPS Technician. A list of certified CPS Technicians is available by state or ZIP code on the NHTSA Web site. A list inspection stations where you can go to learn how to correctly install a car safety seat is available in English and Spanish at Seat Check’s Web Site.

It only takes a few minutes to properly install a car seat, and only a few second to safely buckle up your child. It’s a small effort to ensure your child is safe.

Dubbed Project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), GM and Segway are developing an electrically powered, two-seat prototype vehicle that has only two wheels. It could allow people to travel around cities more quickly, safely, quietly and cleanly – and at a lower total cost. Cities around the world are actively looking for solutions to alleviate congestion and pollution. Project PUMA combines several technologies demonstrated by GM and Segway, including electric drive and batteries; dynamic stabilization (two-wheel balancing); all-electronic acceleration, steering and braking; vehicle-to-vehicle communications; and autonomous driving and parking.

Best Suvs of 2007

Best Suvs of 2007

It is said that the best road trip vehicles are SUVs. It cleverly combines the passenger-carrying space with the towing capacity of a pickup truck. But how do you choose the best from the cream-of-the-crop?

After the traumatic 2006 sales fall, automakers are all aimed at putting their best foot forward to get the larger slice of the auto market. The Cadillac Escalade is now being challenged by the first full-size SUV of Mercedes. The latter is a seven-seat SUV with upscale auto features that include air suspension and adjustable ride height. The vehicle can be lowered automatically at speed for a more capable ride.

According to critics in the industry, the overhauled Cadillac Escalade, which was introduced just last year, has the nicest interior among the vehicles in the United States. The Cadillac Escalade uses all-aluminum 6.2 L Vortec V8 mated to Cadillac cold air intake. The vehicle also featured the new six-speed 6L80 automatic transmission and conventional five-link suspension to improve its performance and ride.

Mercedes Benz was quick to follow Cadillac with the plush, full-size GL-Class SUV which is priced at ,000. Mercedes recorded 19,000 sales of the vehicle in 2006. The new Mercedes pride radiates improved performance than that of the R-Class. The GL and the Escalade are among the best SUVs of 2007. However, in the fourth season of this year, mighty rivals are expected to take the limelight.

One of the forthcoming catchy SUVs is the Spyker D12 dubbed as the world’s only exotic sport utility vehicle. The Dutch-built SUV is capable of generation 500-horsepower maximum output. Enthusiasts are now excited about the arrival of the one-of-a-kind vehicle.

The Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler experience a three percent decrease in passenger-car sales while trucks and SUVs declined by eight percent. At General Motors, car sales declined seven percent, while truck and SUV sales declined by around nine or ten percent.

Among Detroit automakers, the Ford Motor Co. reported the most debilitating decrease in sales in the previous year. Ford’s car sales rose five percent while truck and SUVs decreased by fourteen percent. Ford has this to say: “higher gasoline prices and long-term demographic trends drove SUV sales lower, and a soft housing industry weighed on full-size truck sales.”

However, after just a couple of months, Ford’s sales are making a swift turnaround. The arrival of the new crossover SUVs like the Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX gradually changes the company’s picture.

General Motors Corporation’s GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook are helping the company a bit. The automaker reported that the Acadia and Outlook “drove a 97 percent retail increase in the mid-crossover segment” in February, compared with that time the year before.

Chrysler Group’s new SUVs like the redesigned Jeep Wrangler have also yielded warm welcome. Experts say these new, car-like SUVs, plus steadier gas prices, could serve 2007 a better year for SUV manufacturers.

In Ford’s January statement, the automaker blamed the declining truck and SUV sales on gas prices, demographic trends and the housing industry. The company said: “Ford believes these factors will continue to weigh on these segments in 2007.”

Lexus Rx350, Acura Mdx Rated as Best Luxury Suvs

Lexus Rx350, Acura Mdx Rated as Best Luxury Suvs

The Lexus RX350 and the Acura MDX, both redesigned, bested among its competitors from Cadillac, BMW, and Lincoln in Consumer Reports’ (CR) tests of five midsize luxury SUVs for the July issue. Among the 18 SUVs recently tested by Consumer Reports, the RX350 and MDX now rank in third and fourth places, respectively.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is Consumer Reports’ top-rated vehicle in the category, and a Top Pick vehicle in the Annual April Auto Issue. Ranking overall second is the Lexus RX400h, another hybrid. This car and the RX350 are built on the same platform and their power trains make the difference.

For the July issue, a total of five luxury SUVs (the RX350, MDX, Cadillac SRX, BMW X5, and the Lincoln MKX) were assessed by CR.

A “Very Good” overall score was attained by the SRX but it till finished just midpack in such competitive segment. For this class, the X5 and MKX finished at the bottom of CR’s rankings though still with “Very Good” overall scores.

Each having 80 points overall, the RX350 and MDX finished in a virtual tie. However, the vehicles have very diversified driving characteristics. Delivering the quickest acceleration, the five-passenger RX is elegant and cozy, plus, it delivers the best fuel economy (at 19 mpg overall) among the cars in the group. Meanwhile, the three-row, seven-passenger MDX has better handling and a powertrain that feels sportier than the Lexus.

An Auto Test Extra report on a large SUV (the Lincoln Navigator, which posted a “Very Good” overall score) was also included in the July issue.

The RX350 and the MDX are the only midsize SUVs that Consumer Reports recommends. The SRX was not recommended because of its ‘not-so-good’ reliability record. And as regards the X5 and MKX, CR does not yet have reliability data on them. CR only recommends: the vehicles that have performed well in the test; those with at least average predicted reliability based on the magazine’s Annual Car Reliability Survey of its own subscribers; and those that performed at least fair if crash-tested or included in a government rollover test.

Its new engine makes the Lexus five-passenger luxury SUV an active performer. The car is rich because of its well-designed interior details. But it is also practical because of its fuel efficiency offer. Though third-row seat is not available, this SUV assures good handling.

At ,706 Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price as tested, the RX350 is equipped with a 270-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine. This gives the quickest acceleration and the best fuel economy among the five in this group, yielding 19 mpg overall in CR’s fuel economy tests. The transmission is smooth and responsive at five-speed automatic. Braking, as well, is very good overall.

Equipped with Acura OEM parts, the improved MDX is a well-rounded, seven-seat SUV that bested among vehicles costing thousands more. Its refined powertrain, responsive handling, and controlled ride are the characteristics that CR definitely likes. With third-row seat that is tight for children, the MDX (,365 MSRP as tested) is propelled by a 300-hp, 3.7-liter V6 that delivers quick acceleration. Just like the RX350, the MDX also has a five-speed automatic transmission that is smooth and responsive. Braking is also very good.

Once the external factors, such as a series of stimulation policies issued by the government, took effect, the sales of Chinese passenger Vehicle would keep a steady growth. This report mainly analyzes the present development situation of Chinese passenger Vehicle market and also involves the sub-sectors of Chinese passenger Vehicle market. Meanwhile, the operations of the domestic outstanding passenger Vehicle enterprises are introduced in this report. Chinese enterprises can find out some experiences and lessons and discover the potential investment opportunities. 7 Seat SUV

November 18th, 2009

If you are looking for a 7 Seat SUV; there are a couple of things that you should consider.  Today, we are going to list some of the newest SUVs that will seat at least 7 passengers, and we will discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.  Some of the items to be considered are seating capacity, safety, gas mileage, and price.

Overall, when choosing an SUV you are actually already choosing a vehicle that is safer on average than your basic automobile.  These cars are built to be more robust and still very easy to handle.  And in particular with these larger models that seat at least 7 people, you can still fit the whole family!

2009 Subaru Tribeca

Subaru is not typically known for creating vehicles that can seat 7 or more people, but the Tribeca is one of those exceptions.  This 2009 model SUV The has a 3.6L engine capable of producing 256 hp.

It also comes with some premium options for touchscreen GPS and DVD system or even a satellite radio.

2009 Kia Borrego

Kia is a manufacturer that many people will skip over when they are looking for vehicles.  However, the Borrego is worth a second look if you want a 7 seat SUV.

This Kia handles well gets good gas mileage, and the best part is that because it is a Kia, it is affordable!

2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

This Mitsubishi model has been around for a little while, but they keep producing it because people like it.  The Outlander has the optional 3rd row seat that many people are looking for.

Therefore, when you are not hauling 7 passengers around, you can fold the back seat down and have a little extra storage space; very easy to use, and very convenient!

2009 Mazda CX-9

The Mazda CX-9 is a great option for SUV lovers because it seats a lot of people, but it handles a little more like a luxury vehicle.  So, if you are looking at riding in style, then this may be a great option for you.

Of course, this model is a little more expensive than some of the other options; but it is not WAY overpriced like some models that we have not reviewed here.

So, overall, when you are making a decision about a 7 seat SUV model, you should consider factors such as price, gas mileage, capacity, and safety.

8 Seat SUV

November 18th, 2009

As you move into the 8 seat SUV range, the choice of models out there is significantly reduced.  A lot of auto manufactures create vehicles with the 2 captain seats in the front and middle rows, and then a full 3rd row seat in the back.  This would only seat 7.

However, if you look hard enough, you may be able to find an SUV that seats 8 people.  Take a look at our list of 7 seat SUVs and see if any of those models appear to be suited for your needs.

Otherwise, another option is to look at purchasing a minivan or other larger vehicle.  There are lots of minivan models that will still seat 8 people; although this is usually the maximum.  If you want to seat any more than 8, you then start getting into the range where a full sized van would be better suited for you.

An 8 Seat SUV model that many people like to take a look at is the Toyota Highlander.  This is a solid vehicle that will make you feel safe when you drive it due to the size.  However, at the same time, it still handles very well (especially the newest models) and allows you to have full control over your vehicle.

Chevy, GM, and Suzuki also produce some 8 seat SUVs that are worth taking a look at.  Overall, when you are comparing vehicles, you have to decide what is most important to you and your family.  Some of the key decision factors are safefy, size, gas mileage, and overall look and feel of the vehicle.  And then of course, you will need to consider the price as well.

We hope that some of the information on this site can help you in your decision making and education process in regards to 7 seat SUV and 8 Seat SUVs.
